Head-On Collisions: Head-on car collisions, or frontal impacts, can cause serious injuries and fatalities. They usually occur when a car strikes a stationary object or is negligently driven in the wrong direction down a road or highway.
Rear-End Collisions : According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, rear end collisions are the most common type of car accident in Arizona. Rear-end collisions are often caused by the negligence of a driver who is distracted or simply not paying attention, and fails to brake in time, especially on the freeway link to freeway collision accidents at a red light. A rear-end or head-on collision can result in a car fire.
Side-Impact Collisions: Side-impact car accidents are ones where the side of one or more vehicles is hit. These kinds of car collisions often occur at intersections, in parking lots, or when a vehicle changes lanes on a multi-lane roadway. Two common types of side-impact collisions are:
Injuries in side-impact collisions can be very severe because automobile “crumple zones” and airbags often are designed for frontal or rear-end collisions, leaving vehicle occupants relatively unprotected when hit from the side. Depending on the speeds of the vehicles, side-impact collisions also can cause the struck vehicle to lose control and roll over or strike stationary objects, pedestrians, or other vehicles.
Rollovers : Although rollovers are the rarest type of car collision, they can also cause some of the most serious injuries. These accidents occur when a vehicle rolls over onto its side or roof. Sometimes this happens when the vehicle was turned too sharply or too suddenly, but a rollover can also occur when a vehicle is hit from the side or suffers a tire blowout. Rollovers can be especially dangerous when a vehicle is defectively designed. In these cases, the poorly-supported roof can allow the weight of the vehicle crush the occupants.
Accidents Involving Other Types of Motor Vehicles
In Arizona, cars make up a large percentage of all vehicles involved in collisions. But collisions often involve tractor trailers, semi-trucks, buses, and trains can cause death or serious injuries.
