Aggressive Driving Accidents
Arizona Personal Injury Lawyers for Aggressive Driving Car Accidents
Aggressive driving or “road rage” are terms used to describe a variety of dangerous driving behaviors. Aggressive drivers make the road dangerous for themselves and others and often cause serious collisions. That is why Arizona is one of eleven states that have passed a law specifically regarding aggressive driving.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) defines aggressive driving as “the operation of a motor vehicle in a manner that endangers or is likely to endanger persons or property”. In a NHTSA survey, about 30 percent of respondents said they felt their safety was threatened by aggressive driving in the last month, while 67 percent felt this threat during the last year.

Signs of Aggressive Driving
Arizona’s aggressive driving law defines aggressive driving as driving that is an immediate hazard to another person or vehicle and involves speeding plus at least two of the following behaviors:
- Failure to obey a traffic control device (including driving through the “gore area” — the space between a roadway and an entrance or exit ramp that is marked by two wide solid white lines)
- Passing on the right on the shoulder or outside of the regular lanes of traffic
- Unsafe lane change
- Following too closely (tailgating)
- Failure to yield right of way
Aggressive driving is a class 1 misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to six months and suspension of the offender’s driver’s license.
