According to a national survey by a large auto insurance company, Arizona residents are almost twice as likely to die in a motor vehicle collision caused by someone running a red light than residents of any other state. The survey also found that 36% of motorists nationwide admitted to running a red light in the past year.

The most common type of accident caused by red light violations are T-bone or broadside collisions, where the red light runner hits the side of the victim's car or the victim's car runs head-on into the side of the violator's car.
