Red Light Collisions

Arizona Injury Lawyers for Red Light Running Collisions

According to a national survey by a large auto insurance company, Arizona residents are almost twice as likely to die in a motor vehicle collision caused by someone running a red light than residents of any other state. According to the survey, there are 10.8 deaths per 100,000 people in the Phoenix metropolitan area and 7.1 deaths per 100,000 people in Arizona as a whole. The survey also found that 36% of motorists nationwide admitted to running a red light in the past year.

Arizona's severe red light running problem has caused the state and city governments to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on red light cameras and institute new punishments for those cited for running red lights. Despite these new enforcement procedures, red light running continues to be one of the largest problems on our roadways.

If you or someone you love has been injured or killed because someone ran a red light, contact Solomon and Relihan. We are Phoenix injury attorneys with more than 30 years experience helping accident victims in Maricopa County and throughout Arizona.

Accidents Caused by Red Light Violations

The most common type of accident caused by red light violations are T-bone or broadside collisions, where the red light runner hits the side of the victim's car or the victim's car runs head-on into the side of the violator's car. These are among the most dangerous types of accidents. Whether the impact is on the side or the front of the victim's vehicle, the resulting injuries and damages can be severe.

Red light runners are also at great risk to cause a collision with a motorcyclist, bicyclist, or pedestrian. In these situations, the risk for severe injuries and death for the victim is far greater than when the victim is in a car.

Determining Fault in Red Light Collisions

People who run red lights often receive a traffic citation at the scene of the collision, but sometimes the at-fault driver leaves the scene of the collision (hit and run) or the police do not receive enough information to know which driver ran the red light. However, just because the other driver did not receive a ticket does not mean that the other driver was not at fault. That is why Solomon and Relihan begins each case with a thorough investigation of the facts and law involved in order to determine exactly what happened in the collision.
