Soft Tissue Injuries: Sprain, Strain

Arizona Accident Lawyers for Soft Tissue Injuries

The term soft tissue refers to the tendons, ligaments, and muscles throughout your body. Soft tissue injuries occur when the impact from a car accident damages these tissues. Soft tissue injuries are among the most common types of injuries suffered in auto accidents. Additionally, they can be among the most dangerous, because they are often not detected right away and, if left untreated, can lead to chronic and severe pain.

Unlike injuries to bones, soft tissue injuries cannot be detected by x-rays. It can also take victims hours, and sometimes days, to experience symptoms, such as pain, redness and swelling.

Regardless of when your symptoms develop, you should seek proper medical attention for your injuries. If your injury was caused by someone else's fault--such as the negligence or recklessness of another driver, or defects in the vehicle or roadway--you should also get the compensation you deserve from the other person's insurance company.

At Solomon and Relihan, we have over 30 years experience helping accident victims in Maricopa County and throughout Arizona. If you have suffered a soft-tissue injury in a motor vehicle accident, contact us and see how we can help you.

Causes of Soft Tissue Injuries

Soft tissue injuries can occur in all types of car accidents, including collisions at low speeds. The sudden jolting and impact can cause the soft tissues - tendons, ligaments and muscles - to be stretched, torn or otherwise damaged.

Types of Soft Tissue Injury

  • Sprain - Sprains are the most well-known type of soft tissue injury. A sprain is the stretching or tearing of a ligament. Common sprains include ankles, knees, and wrists.
  • Strain - Though it is often used interchangeably with sprain, a strain is a slightly different type of injury. A strain is the stretching or tearing of a muscle or tendon. A strain can happen almost anywhere on your body, but they are particularly prevalent in the back muscles.

Results of Soft Tissue Injuries

If identified and treated properly, most soft tissue injuries can heal fairly easily and the victim can make a full recovery. However, if left unidentified or untreated, a soft-tissue injury can get worse and the victim's pain will increase. If you believe you have suffered a soft tissue injury, seek medical treatment as soon as possible.

Many car accident injury victims don't see a doctor because they think they cannot afford it. The attorneys at Solomon & Relihan know many well-respected doctors who can provide you the care you need now while waiting for payment until after your lawsuit has been completed.
