Back Injuries

Arizona Accident Lawyers for Back Injuries

Back injuries--including fractured vertebrae, herniated discs, or strained muscles, ligaments, or other soft tissues--are a common type of injury often suffered in automobile accidents. Back injuries can cause severe pain and limit your ability to work and do everyday tasks. In fact, 10% of back injuries suffered in car accidents lead to long-term disability.

Back injuries suffered in motor vehicle accidents can be complex and difficult situations. Insurance companies may attempt to limit their liability and not give victims full compensation for the harm they have suffered. Back injuries can cause large medical bills, severe pain and suffering, and lost income. Victims need to receive proper compensation to cover all of these potential problems.

If you have suffered a back injury, contact Solomon and Relihan. We are Phoenix injury attorneys with more than 30 years experience helping accident victims in Maricopa County and throughout Arizona.

Causes of Back Injury

Back injuries can occur in all types of impacts, including collisions at low speeds. The sudden deceleration, twisting, and jolting the body experiences during an accident can easily cause bones, discs, muscles, tendons, and other structures of the back to break, rupture, and tear.

Types of Back Injuries

There are many types of back injuries. Two of the more common back injuries suffered in car accidents are:

  • Strained Muscles - A strained muscle is the result of a pull or tear in the muscle, and is a fairly common injury. Symptoms include pain, redness, and swelling. Strains can be very painful, but can usually be cured with proper medical treatment. However, if left untreated, the pull or tear will become worse and cause increasing pain.
  • Herniated/Ruptured/Bulging/Prolapsed/Slipped Disc - The force of a motor vehicle impact also can damage the intervertebral discs, which separate, cushion, and help hold the bones of the spine in place. The 23 discs in the human spine are something like a doughnut, with a tough outer ring encasing a soft, jelly-like inner core. If that outer portion is ruptured or torn, the inner gel can begin to leak out and put pressure on the nearby nerves, causing inflammation, weakness, pain, or tingling or numbness.

Treatment of Back Injuries

Most common back injuries can be cured with proper treatment, but if left untreated back injuries can become progressively worse and cause increased pain and suffering. If you have suffered a back injury, prompt medical care can make all the difference, so don't delay.

Many car accident injury victims don't see a doctor because they think they cannot afford it. The attorneys at Solomon & Relihan know a network of well-respected doctors who can provide the care you need now while waiting for payment until after your lawsuit has been completed.
